Bob Kaempfe, 2008's Democratic candidate for Illinois State House of Representatives 64th District has paid for a series of on air advertisements that will air all day Saturday and Sunday on Star 105.5 FM; eight spots will run each day.

These spots endorse our Algonquin Township Trustee candidates: Frank Hyden, Bob Franks, and James McTague; Change for Nunda candidates Meredith Reid Sarkees and Patrick Murfin; Greenwood Township's Ed Riley for Supervisor, Kerry Julian for Clerk, and Tom Ganka for Road Commissioner; Jeff Thirtyacre for Burton Township Road Commissioner; and John Darger for McHenry County College Trustee.

We Have Ruffled Some Feathers Now Let's Finish the Job

Our campaign is making the entrenched Republican powers that be in Algonquin Township worried, which is part of the point of this campaign.

In a mailer (pictured on the left) from the Algonquin Township Republican Central Committee Karla Dobbeck the Chairwoman states that "...our Republican Algonquin Township Trustees are in a battle to hold their positions...we have not seen this type of Democratic activity here in Algonquin Township before and need to put a stop to it before it takes hold."

The mailer goes on to ask for money, which is all the current Trustee Board thinks you the citizen is good for. The Republican stranglehold of the Algonquin Township does not want any competition otherwise the could not do as they please and just send you the taxpayer the bill.

We are closing in on the April 7th election date. Let's continue our great efforts and not only ruffle some Republican feathers let's send a real message by voting in 3 new Democratic trustees to the Algonquin Township Trustee Board. Change has come to Algonquin Township; and to Mrs. Dobbeck, Democratic activity has already taken hold and the Republicans need to get used to it.

A Message from Maury Hill

The following is a message we received via email from our good friend and fellow Democratic precinct Committeeman Maury Hill...

We have municipal elections coming up. If the primary turnout in Algonquin Township is an indicator, the turnout will be very light. There are few upsides to informed voters staying at home, but one is that candidates who are not approved by the power elite, but who are willing to work very hard have a chance for success.

First I urge you to break ranks with most of the voters and be sure to get to the polls on April 7. Or better yet, there is early voting at Algonquin thru April 2. (:00 AM to 1:00 PM

And I would ask for your support for my friend John Darger who is running as an Independent for McHenry County College Board. You may remember him from some of our Tomato Fest or Dog Days of Summer backyard events. John has recently successfully fought the College plan to erect a baseball stadium for the benefit of minor league team owners on the College grounds. This project not only had nothing to do with an educational mission, the best case scenario was that profits would begin in 11 years! Undaunted, the college board approved the project. It was only stopped by the Crystal Lake City Council (narrowly) based on environmental and public pressure considerations.

The college board needs John to add some critical thinking to its deliberations. John has a web site which may be of further interest.

Second I would ask for your vote for the three Democratic candidates for Algonquin Township trustee, Frank Hyden, Bob Frank and James (Doc) McTague. These are three brave souls taking on the Republican machine in this township. All three are committed to fiscal & operational responsibility and ending the nepotism at the township offices.

BTW, I am not all that thrilled with low turnouts generally. But in a college government class I read an essay by the then mayor of Peoria who argued that people who were conversant with candidates and issues. Others were just wasting time and election materials. I don't have an effective counter argument to this day.

Getting Close to Victory

We are only a few days from the April 7th elections and we are looking forward to an election day victory. The Get Out The Vote GOTV efforts by our volunteers has been great. We are making contacts with voters through phone contact and door to door conversations. We are consistently greeted with enthusiasm are support. People are glad to meet other independent progressives and Democrats in their community. There are many of us. Many have commented about receiving our post cards in the mail and seeing our signs in their nieghborhoods and in the community. Others have shared that their Republican friends have expressed concern that we are so visible. Well we are very glad to see these results because we want to let other like minded community members that it is time to ask for balanced representation. That is why we are putting our names on the ballot. To give the voters in Algonquin Township a choice of representation. Representation of your interests and values. To provide a balance view on the Trustee Board. Those of you that we have talked to that have had a chance to early vote have been pleased to see a choice of candidates to vote for and have been glad to vote for a democratic choice. Thank you for your support and we will see you on April 7th.

Great Effort at our Party for the Party

Thanks to everyone who helped out in our phone party for our Party.

We had a great turnout for our event and we were able to reach over 1000 households. Awesome job guys. Everyone was able to help get our message out and receive input from our fellow citizens.

Frank, Bob, and myself are going to need more help like this leading up to the April 7th election and beyond.

We are going to have future weekly phone banking events; in fact we are having one this Wed. the 4th from 1pm until 3:30pm at my house 1100 Cougar Trail, Cary IL 60013.

When the weather gets a bit nicer we will also need volunteers to visit our fellow neighbors by canvassing and blitzing events.

More from the Tax and Spend Republicans

The Republican primary is over at the estimated cost of 100,000.00 for 600 votes cast which is about 167.00 residential real estate tax dollars per vote; and this was an uncontested primary.

I hardly think this was money well spend, but what can you expect from more of the same. We really need to get these folks out of our government.

We are mailing out the following post cards to many of you throughout Algonquin Township...

Our tagline "Vote for 3 at the top and then stop~" refers to how our three candidates will be the first three on the ballot. The ballot will say vote for 4 trustees, but you do not have to vote for that many; and it is better if you do not. Every vote for a fourth trustee candidate goes to a Republican canceling out a Democratic vote.

So on 4/7/2009 vote for 3 at the top then stop~

Historic Election

The April, Algonquin Township election will be an opportunity for our voters to make history by electing Democrats to the Township board, something that has never happened before.

This will mean an end to one-party domination of the board for the first time in history. Similar to a breath of clean, fresh air blowing over McHenry County politics.
You can be part of providing for two opinions concerning board policies rather than the rubber stamp system that has been in effect during the entire history of the Township.

As many of you have heard me say before in my bids for the McHenry County Board "we need to end the single party rule." One party government only breeds corruption and benefits no one. For far too long the "tax and spend Republicans" have taken our money and given us little to nothing in return. We need to reclaim our township. That is why I have found two others in our township who have agreed to run with me for the Algonquin Township Board of Trustees Frank Hyden and Robert Frank.
